The Sound of Islay and the Paps of Jura.

I recently received an enquiry from Nova Innovation in relation to one of my images of the Sound of Islay and the Paps of Jura for use on their website and marketing material. The company are currently involved in a project to install underwater turbines between Islay and Jura in order to generate renewable power from the tidal current that flows through the sound of Islay. The project has been named ‘Òran na Mara’ which is gaelic for ‘Song of the Sea’ and has been welcomed by representatives from across the board including local MPs and distillery bosses. There has been talk on Islay of similar projects happening for quite some time with none ever coming to fruition so hopefully this one is the real deal.

I was pleased to provide an image of the Paps of Jura taken from across The Sound on the shores of Bunnahabhainn. The marketing team at Nova Innovation adjusted the image to demonstrate how the turbines will look under the water. You can view the image on Nova Innovation’s press release here.

The request prompted a look through the camera at some photos that feature the Sounds of Islay and the Paps of Jura, one of my favourite views from Islay.
