A trip to the Greek island of Crete in October.

We took our first post covid trip abroad to the Greek island of Crete in October last year and it was a great time to visit the island with great weather and a more relaxed, quieter atmosphere than the busier summer months. Our stay was at the 4 star Infinity Blue Boutique Hotel & Spa in Hersonissos, a chilled out adults only hotel perfect for relaxing and in a central location for exploring the resort.

During the holiday we took a day trip to Agios Nikolaos, a picturesque port town found by heading east along the coast from Hersonissos. We caught the public coach which took just under an hour and was relatively inexpensive. In Agios Nikolaos there are some great spots for lunch at the edge of the lagoon as well as some pretty little bays and narrow side streets to explore. The town is well worth a visit to spend a few hours on your holiday to Crete.

We also headed northwest along the coast from our hotel where you’ll find cliffs and coves with tiny beaches to chill out and enjoy the views out to sea. Keep walking along the path at the top of the cliffs and eventually you’ll reach a set of steps that take you down to a small lido that provides a great spot for swimming. Further along you’ll find the quaint St George’s Chapel at the head of the bay looking onto the town of Hersonissos.

Crete was a great place to visit in October. Lots still to do and the weather still really pleasant but not too hot. There are lots of brilliant restaurants along the strip in Hersonissos and a few night spots too. We enjoyed a few late nights in the New York Beach Club that had an international, party crowd. It had really friendly staff, both on the door and behind the bar which made for an enjoyable and safe atmosphere.
