A Hilton Seychelles Northolme review, one week on Mahe Island.
A week at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa was the perfect amount of time to spend relaxing and exploring what the islands have to offer with this beautiful resort and spa hotel the ideal base for a chilled out holiday. A short distance from Beau Vallon and Victoria, the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa sits secluded in it’s own bay on the west coast of Mahe Island.
Getting there
Getting to the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa from the airport was easy. Pick up a taxi from outside the airport. The journey takes around half an hour, driving through the capital of Victoria and along Beau Vallon beach, the resort is just five minutes outside of Beau Vallon. The taxi cost around 40 euros.
Our taxi dropped us at the welcome hut at the entrance to the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa and we were greeted by concierge who took care of our luggage. We were welcomed with a glass of fizz by a member of staff and sat on comfy sofas to take in our first view of the Indian Ocean from the hotel. A nice touch to begin an amazing holiday here! Once finished we were taken in a golf buggy a short journey down to reception for a hassle free check in.
At the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa, instead of rooms, guest’s have the luxury of staying in their very own private villa. As Hilton Honors Gold members we had hoped for an upgrade to the King Ocean Front Villas that have their own infinity pool looking out over the Indian Ocean, but no luck. However we were still amazed and more than happy with our King Hillside Villa.
Our private villa was amazing, complete with, king size four poster bed, surround sound music system, open plan shower area with whirlpool bath and double balcony with loungers and seating area with views across the Indian Ocean, Beau Vallon Bay and Silhouette Island. A welcome bottle of champagne chilling on ice was waiting for us along with bedroom decoration, two complimentary cocktail vouchers and a massage each at the spa, we felt absolutely spoilt.
Exploring the resort
The Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa is on a small hill side above the sea, set amongst fauna bustling with a variety of birds and wildlife. There is lots to do without having to even leave the resort.
Spend your days at the resort’s own private beach in it’s own secluded cove. With snorkel equipment, canoes and paddle boards available for use, you can spend hours in the water snorkelling and chasing fish or venturing out onto the bay to the best snorkelling spots which the hotel have marked with floats in the bay.
At the end of a busy day in the sea, retreat to the infinity pool and watch the sunset while chilling out on one of the many cabanas that surround the pool. A lower level area below the infinity pool is home to the gym and spa. The gym is air conditioned and well equipped for an effective work out. We pre booked our free treatment at the spa a few days prior and we were given a warm welcome by the spa attendants. We were shown to a small treatment room that over looked the sea with the same amazing views enjoyed from across the resort. It was the perfect setting for a relaxing massage!
Food & Drink
The food and drink on offer at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa was exceptional. Cocktails and snacks are served directly to your lounger by either the pool or the beach so you don’t even have to move from your sun bathing spot.
The Ocean View Bar and Restaurant sits above the lagoon and has adopted a James Bond theme, given that the author of the series took his inspiration from the local area. It has a laid back atmosphere often with live music in the evenings. Try out the pesto pasta as well as the local curry, one of the best curries I have ever tasted. The Bloody Mary cocktail was an ideal finisher after your meal, all of which were brilliant.
At the Hilltop Restaurant, a packed selection for breakfast is served. Pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausages, eggs in all varieties, pastries, fruit, cakes and more are all on offer. The best bit about the breakfast was the prosecco station and along with those views, it was the perfect spot to sink a bottle or two to start your day. The Hilltop Restaurant also serves a buffet style dinner in the evenings for a set price with different themes each night.
Les Cocotiers was a more sophisticated restaurant with an Ala Carte menu. There is a strict dress code where men are required to wear trousers and I forgot to pack some so we didn’t visit.
Getting Out
Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa is in an ideal location for exploring the Seychelles with many places of interest nearby. Just a short stroll along the road, left as you come out of the resort is Sunset Beach. Almost hidden by palm trees from the road, this beach was an absolute find for a spot of sunbathing and snorkelling. Stop in at the little shop on the way for some refreshments and spend an afternoon here just chilling and maybe even stay for sunset, it’s called Sunset Beach for a reason!
Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa provides a free shuttle taxi service to Beau Vallon beach. The local driver was Ron Marie and he was very knowledgeable about the area and happy to offer his local tips. We arranged for him to take us back to the airport for the end of our stay in the Seychelles and he also does full day tours of Mahe Island. Beau Vallon beach was a bit more lively, with more people, watersports and stray dogs! It was nice, but we felt the surrounding areas were a bit messy and couldn’t feel relaxed as much here. We started walking back to the hotel and found this idyllic spot perfect for a few pictures. Ron Marie spotted us walking on the road and took us back to the hotel.
Adopt a Coral
A unique keep sake of your stay at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa. Before you go home, be sure to adopt a coral, with the funds going towards growing and maintaining local corals. You get a certificate and updates about its progress.
La Digue Island
A highlight of the Seychelles was a day trip to the island of La Digue. We arranged the trip with a local tour provider who picked us up at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa and took us to the port in Victoria for the ferry. The ferry journey took about an hour and a half with a stop at Praslin island on route. Arriving at La Digue we picked up our bicycle hire and headed straight for Anse Source d’Argent, La Digue’s most famous beach and one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
If you are ever in the Seychelles, a visit to this beach is an absolute must. Get there as early as possible as it can get quite busy when the ferries start to arrive on the island. The nearby nature reserve is also home to several giant turtles who are to eat leaves and plants from your hands.
