Best places to eat and drink in Glasgow after lockdown.

With hints of lockdown restrictions being relaxed in Scotland it’s probably time to start thinking about getting out and about in Glasgow again and eventually travelling further than five miles from home. Soon the pubs and restaurants in the city will be opening again and I’ll be heading out to some of my favourites places to eat and drink. Here is my list of the best places to eat and drink in Glasgow after lockdown.

Stag and Thistle Southside

Situated on Pollokshaws Road in the heart of the Southside, Stag and Thistle provides the perfect spot for an afternoon of good food and drink. The menu is imaginative with a wide selection of burgers, mac and cheeses and loaded fries. Plenty to offer on the drinks front too and conveniently located for a visit after a stroll round Queens Park. There’s outdoor seating too for those rare warmer days.

Bucks Bar

It’s become a Glasgow phenomenon and an instant hit across social media. The owners have also been at the forefront of campaigns against the tough restrictions the hospitality industry has faced during lockdown. They have remained open, operating as a takeaway serving their now iconic burgers and cocktails. When they’re open again I’ll be heading there for the salt and chilli chicken burger and homemade pakora. The portions are huge!

Glaschu Restaurant

Glaschu being gaelic for Glasgow, the restaurant is new to the city’s trendy Royal Exchange Square. I thankfully managed to visit in between lockdowns and tried the roast beef Sunday lunch. Best roast in the city centre and the surroundings are 1st class.

SWG3 Galvanizers Yard.

Last July, SWG3 transformed their backyard into an outdoor eating and drinking venue with a variety of cuisines to choose from. The operation was fine tuned with temperature checks on arrival and staff delivering drinks to your table, kitted out in full PPE. Here’s hoping Galvanizers Yard makes a return for 2021.

Hilton Garden Inn.

Arguably the best outdoor space for eating and drinking in Glasgow, situated on the edge of the Clyde. Practically underneath the Finnieston Crane, you’ll have views of some of Glasgow’s most famous landmarks including the Squinty Bridge, the Armadillo and the Glasgow Science Centre. In good weather, seats fill up fast and sometimes there’s a live DJ.

The Islay Inn

At the edge of Finnieston, the Islay Inn offers the perfect meeting place for friends with a relaxed atmosphere and traditional live music at the weekends. The food on offer is classic pub style with some Scottish favourites. Great value with hearty portions. My go to is the lasagne and chips!
